Elektron Renewables Completes Expansion of Jabi Lake Mall’s Rooftop Solar Installation

Elektron Renewables has successfully expanded Jabi Lake Mall’s rooftop solar PV installation, increasing its total installed capacity from 600 kWp to approximately 1.5 MWp by adding 902.4 kWp of new solar capacity. The completed project is now the largest rooftop solar installation on a shopping mall in West Africa.

Located in the heart of Abuja, Jabi Lake Mall is one of Nigeria’s leading retail destinations, welcoming more than 500,000 visitors every month and home to over 100 retail outlets. The expanded installation is expected to meet 70% of the mall’s power demand while generating an estimated 110,000 kWh of electricity each month, equivalent to approximately 1,320 MWh annually.

The project reflects a broader shift in how large commercial developments are approaching energy infrastructure. As businesses place greater emphasis on reliability, long-term resilience and operational efficiency, renewable energy is increasingly becoming part of the core infrastructure that supports day-to-day operations rather than a supplementary source of power.

Commenting on the milestone, Sianny Ayodele, Head of Elektron Renewables, said:

"Projects like Jabi Lake Mall demonstrate that renewable energy has become critical infrastructure for commercial and industrial businesses. As energy demand continues to grow and businesses seek greater cost certainty and reliability, distributed renewable energy is increasingly becoming a strategic business decision. Expanding the mall's rooftop solar installation to approximately 1.5 MWp is an important milestone for Elektron Renewables. It demonstrates what is possible when customers have the confidence to invest in renewable energy at scale, and it reinforces our commitment to delivering energy solutions that create long-term value for our clients."
